STEELHEAD COMMUNITY HALL UPDATE

Please watch to sign board on the corner for future work bees throughout the summer & fall.  It is very important to have your support during this busy time for this project to succeed.

Excitement is growing around Steelhead these days!  Construction is now underway, and we are rarin’ to go.  After what could have been a shaky start (brr… cold, due to lingering snow) our first work bee of the season was held on March 29th, and what a fine turn out it was!  About a dozen dedicated volunteers came out to help with some final forming and backfilling, etc. and spirits were high.  A few more work parties have taken place since then, which now brings us to having our floor on and the work on the logs can begin.  Needless to say, we will be needing your help now, more than ever.  In order to get the hall to “lockup” phase by fall, a lot of hard work needs to be done, so it’s time to pitch in and help create this legacy for your Community.  The hard work and effort we put forth this summer and fall will be reflected in the pride we feel when we stand back and admire the beautiful new hall that we all helped to build.   It was sure nice to see some new faces at the work bees; thank you to George Taylor, Craig Piche and Wayne McKean for coming out to lend a hand and of course the lovely ladies who provide nourishment to our hardworking crews.

Naturally it goes without saying, but we will; thanks to all the regulars who continue to come out, ready to work hard, time & time again.

BEAR SAFETY

It’s that time of the year again when bears are being seen around the area.  In order to keep the bear problems to a minimum, there are a few precautions you can take.

  • Keep garbage in a secured building
  • Never leave fish or meat remains outdoors
  • Store spoiled goods in the freezer until you can get to the dump
  • Pick fruit as it ripens
  • Take care with composts, bee hives, pet food and bird feeders
  • Make noise so your presence is known

Don’t run, avoid direct eye contact.

BE A GOOD NEIGHBOUR

As the days and evenings get warmer, people in the neighbourhood will be out taking a stroll, riding their bikes or walking their dogs.  Please be a good neighbour and ensure that your own dogs are secured in your yards so that we all can enjoy the neighbourhood without worrying about encountering an unfriendly dog along the way.  Nothing can ruin a pleasant outing faster than an aggressive dog charging out onto the road at you.  The SCA appreciates your cooperation in this matter.

AGM JUNE 24, 2008

Come on out and find out what's going on in your community, hear about the exciting progress on our new hall, have a say in who will be representing your Community and see how you can become more involved!

This meeting is open to all residents of Steelhead and your attendance is definitely encouraged.  We hope to see you there.  Bring your lawnchair!

MEMBERSHIP DRIVE

We will have a table set up at the AGM for our Membership Drive, so please don’t forget to bring your $10 so you can renew your family membership, or if you haven’t done so yet, you may become a member that night! Thanks for your support!

Steelhead Social Committee Report

Steelhead Easter Egg Hunt

Held at Teresa & Don’s house on Sabo Road March 22, 2008.  The sun made a rare appearance, which brought out about 20 youngsters and their families.  The kids did crafts, ate goodies and found their allotment of eggs filled with sugary delight.  Barbequed hot dogs and soda’s were provided.  It was really great to see new faces out.  Many thanks to our hardworking creative hosts Teresa and Don.

First Annual Golf Tournament

Saturday, May 24, 2008 dawned a beauty!  The sun shone brightly on close to 40 eager golfers of dubious skills, at the Cedar Ridge Golf Course.  Teeing off in front of hoards of hecklers proved daunting for the inexperienced.  Soon, overcoming their shyness, they were observed swacking balls gleefully and heard shouting “FORE!!”

Many thanks to our sponsors:  Ken Stricker who donated BC Hydro gear and two Maddox’s tools.  Gavin Brown with Coast Spas donated a spa chemical package, golf gloves, hats and bottle of JD.  A big thank you to the Cedar Ridge Golf Course.  Even if you don’t golf many of us enjoyed their quiet delightful patio over looking the 18th hole while being served a variety of beverages and good food such as hand cut fries and other homemade tasty snacks.  We’re already looking forward to next year!

3rd Annual  Steelhead BBQ & Family Day

Start thinking of what country you and the family will represent

We would like to add a brand new column to our quarterly newsletter called Steelhead Happenings.  If you know of anyone who is celebrating a milestone birthday or anniversary, perhaps a wedding or the arrival of a new baby, or maybe you know of someone new in the neighbourhood, we would love to hear about it, so we can share the news with everyone in the Community.

For example:  Congratulations to Rhys Pretty and Myles Harrison for Graduating!

Drop us a line in the suggestion box if you have anything that should be included in our Fall edition of Steelhead Matters.  Lets get acquainted.
