Neighbourhood
Emergency Preparedness Program

Laurel Exner, Emergency Social Services Director for the District of Mission, has offered to work with us to bring the Neighbourhood Emergency Preparedness program to our community. This program is not currently available in Mission due to the costs associated with implementing such a program. However, Laurel feels that the Steelhead Community would make an ideal community to pilot the program due to the active committee and community involvement.
The program entails training residence in different roles/functions in the event of an emergency such as a forest fire or earthquake. These roles are:
- Neighbourhood Leadership
- First Aid
- Utilities/Fire Support
- Light Urban Search & Rescue
- Communications & Transportation
- Damage Assessment
Some of the courses required may be offered at no charge (for example Damage Assessment) and others would have a cost associated with them (First Aid). We may be able to get a trainer to come to Steelhead and train a group of individuals at one time.
At this time, only 3 other communities have a Neighbourhood Emergency Preparedness program in place and they are: Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam and Port Moody.
Stay tuned for more details to follow on this exciting program!
